Upon receiving his third yellow card during the season, a player's tally is adjusted if he competes in five consecutive matches without incurring any additional disciplinary actions or yellow cards. This results in the reduction of one yellow card from his total, decreasing from three to two. The player currently holds two opportunities to qualify for the "good conduct bonus" in the MLS regular season. Should this athlete remain unpenalized with no red or yellow cards, nor any supplementary sanctions, throughout the next five games, his total yellow card count would further diminish by one. Consequently, he would retain just one yellow card and one remaining chance to earn the "good conduct bonus."
Prior to the 2025 campaign, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) also implemented a comparable rule. This represents yet another instance of North American soccer employing disciplinary incentives to foster ongoing exemplary conduct among players.
