In 2021, during a gaming broadcast, Leonard employed offensive and derogatory language targeting Jewish individuals, which led to his suspension by the Heat for a week and a fine of $50,000. Leonard admitted that his use of such language stemmed from ignorance rather than malice or prejudice. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that he can never retrieve the words he uttered at that time.
"Leonard confessed, 'I am well aware that this incident will never fade away. I am also certain that there will come a time when I must sit down with my children and address this matter, as they are bound to learn about it through school or sports events. I will, as I always do, sit down and share the truth with them. 'Dad made a mistake, and it was deeply embarrassing. But Dad learned from it and grew into a better person.' So, despite my aversion to discussing this period and my reluctance to speak about it, I believe I can say that I am grateful for that error, as it provided me with the chance to become a better version of myself."
